Re: UPDATE: UPPER NYACK PRINCIPAL SEARCH

The District has completed the first key steps in the Upper Nyack Principal search process, facilitated by FOCUS Associates. In an effort to keep the school community well informed about the process, this memo contains the profile of a desired candidate and the names of staff and community members on the Interview Committee.

PROFILE: The profile is based on a compilation of the characteristics desired in a new principal, as expressed in input received by FOCUS. It appears in all advertising material sent out by the consultants. The deadline to receive applications is March 7.

The District seeks a principal who:

• Appreciates the opportunity to provide leadership to a diverse student population;
• Demonstrates a record of encouraging faculty and parent involvement in decision-making;
• Balances the role of standardized testing with the need to provide a creative learning experience for all students;
• Demonstrates expertise in the use of multiple measures of achievement data as a program and instructional evaluation tool;
• Possesses strong skills in the teaching of reading and literacy;
• Exercises diplomacy in resolving conflict;
• Has experience in a principalship or other significant instructional leadership positions;
• Currently holds, or is eligible for, valid New York State School Administrator/Supervisor (SAS) certification

INTERVIEW COMMITTEE: The representative Committee will interview eight finalists recommended by Focus and then send names of no less than five candidates, in rank order, to the Superintendent for further interviews Parents were selected, in order, from the Upper Nyack School's personnel hiring list. The community representative was chosen from the District's hiring list.
