THE NYACK SCHOOL
DISTRICT LAUNCHES A PARENT INSTITUTE
TO PROVIDE EDUCATION AND SUPPORT TO
FAMILIES
The Nyack School
District is strengthening its school and
home partnership with the continuation of its Parent Institutes, initiated last
year. Free monthly information sessions
will once again be based on needs expressed by parents. The first Institute, Thursday October 14,
is on effective parent/child communication:
Talk to Me, Please!, at the Middle
School from 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM.
Parents and guardians attending will be divided into
elementary and secondary level interest groups led by Nyack ESL
program Supervisor, Nancy Rodriguez, and Nyack Middle School Principal,
Jacqueline Gonzalez, respectively.
Topics explored will be how to encourage dialogue, being a responsive
listener and keeping communication lines open.
The aim of the evening is for participants to leave with concrete
methods to improve communication.
The goals of the Institute are to provide education and
support while connecting parents, schools and the community, to focus on best
practices leading to success for all children, and to
build parent/school relationships based on mutual trust. Sessions will take place on a rotating basis
in each of the Schools.
The Nyack Middle
School is located on South
Highland Avenue, off of Route 9W. Child care will be provided at the
site. Parent and guardians planning to
bring a child or children should call the Family Resource Center at 353-7291. Parents and guardians are also encouraged to
contact the Curriculum Office, 353-7068 for their suggestions for future
meetings.
