Re: SCHOOL RUMORS
There is a great
deal of concern and discussion about a rumored threat to our school community
that started circulating Monday afternoon.
Assumptions, unsubstantiated accusations and the rumor mill have blown
the situation out of proportion and caused undue anxiety. This note I hope will clarify the issue and
reassure you that the High School remains a safe and secure place for our
students and staff.
It was relayed to
me on Monday afternoon that a student allegedly made certain remarks outside of
school that could be interpreted as threats.
We immediately initiated an investigation to gather the facts,
questioned students and parents, when necessary, and reported it to the police
through our School Resource Officer.
ALTHOUGH WE ARE
CONTINUING TO INVESTIGATE THE MATTER, WE HAVE FOUND NO EVIDENCE AT THIS TIME
CORROBORATING ANY DIRECT THREAT AGAINST THE SCHOOL OR ANY TARGETED LIST OF
STUDENTS OR GROUPS, AS HAS BEEN RUMORED.
Extra security has been placed in the school, temporarily, just to allay
fears and I have addressed the students with the accurate information stated
here.
In the unfortunate
current national security climate we are all feeling vulnerable. We appreciate your cooperation in reassuring
our students that the school is safe and we will continue to do everything
possible to maintain its safe, secure and sensible climate. Thank you for your understanding.
