Nyack High School has two semi-finalists and five commended students in the prestigious 2001 National Merit Scholarship Program. Only 5% of the more than one million students taking the qualifying 2000 PSAT exam were designated as highest scorers - those showing outstanding academic potential.
Congratulations to semi-finalist: Tiffany Clarke and Paul Webster and commended students Ian Bell, Ju Ahn Lee, Caitlin McMahon, Amy Rappaport and Elijah Reichlin-Melnick
A Merit spokesperson commented, "The young men and women named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding academic potential by their high performance in the extremely competitive National Merit Program. We hope this recognition will help to broaden the educational opportunities of the students and serve as encouragement to the other able students to develop their abilities to the fullest."
Nyack's semi-finalists will now compete to become part of the 1% of students achieving finalist status and monetary awards.
