There have been many changes in State and Federal educational mandates in recent years that affect curriculum, testing and professional development for staff. The District is committed to keeping you informed about these and helping you understand all aspects of your child’s education.
This year there are two significant changes in law that will affect our students:
q The No Child Left Behind legislation mandates an increase in testing beginning in 2005-06, with all students in grades 3-8 to be tested in Math and Language Arts. The test dates appear on the school calendar, being mailed to each home.*
q The new federal regulations for the Individuals with Disabilities Act of 2004 has required a change in the referral process to Special Education. This change requires more intense academic and social support for students prior to referral to the Committee on Special Education.
We will be sending you further
information throughout the year regarding this issue and will provide you with
details at our upcoming Parent Institutes on October 18 and November 16. If you have any questions in reference to the
above please call the Public information Office,
*The 2005-06 calendar will
arrive home during the first week of school.
On the back of this note, for your information, are the dates for
September.
