NYACK SCHOOLS BUDGET AND BOARD TRUSTEE VOTE

District residents will be voting on the
2004-2005 school budget and three positions on the School Board on Tuesday,
May 18. The budget, presented on
March 23, will be discussed at the Hilltop auditorium at a public budget
workshop on Tuesday, April 13 and adopted on April 27. An informational Public Hearing on the
Budget will be held on May 4.
Community members may obtain
petitions to run for the School Board from the Nyack District Clerk. Prospective candidates must be a United
States citizen, at least 18 years of
age, a resident of the Nyack
School
District for at least one year prior to
the election and not employed by the District.
Petitions must be signed by no less than 38 District residents,
and are due in the District Clerk's office by 5:00 PM on Monday, April 19, 2004 (30 days
before the vote).
Candidates in Nyack are elected at-large, meaning a
person does not run for a particular seat on the Board, rather, candidates
receiving the most votes fill the two positions open, those of Trustees Michael
Mark and Don Hammond. Mr. Hammond has
chosen not to run again. The two highest
vote getters will be sworn in for the three-year terms on July 1, 2004.
