NYACK SCHOOLS BUDGET AND BOARD TRUSTEE VOTE

Date: March 25, 2004

Nyack School District residents will be voting on the 2004-2005 school budget and three positions on the School Board on Tuesday, May 18.  The budget, presented on March 23, will be discussed at the Hilltop auditorium at a public budget workshop on Tuesday, April 13 and adopted on April 27.   An informational Public Hearing on the Budget will be held on May 4.

Community members may obtain petitions to run for the School Board from the Nyack District Clerk.  Prospective candidates must be a United States citizen, at least 18 years of age, a resident of the Nyack School District for at least one year prior to the election and not employed by the District.  Petitions must be signed by no less than 38 District residents, and are due in the District Clerk's office by 5:00 PM on Monday, April 19, 2004 (30 days before the vote).

Candidates in Nyack are elected at-large, meaning a person does not run for a particular seat on the Board, rather, candidates receiving the most votes fill the two positions open, those of Trustees Michael Mark and Don Hammond.  Mr. Hammond has chosen not to run again.  The two highest vote getters will be sworn in for the three-year terms on July 1, 2004.

For petitions or further information contact the Nyack District Clerk at 13A Dickinson Avenue, 353-7013.
